Miserere was written in 1989 for the soundtrack of the film The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover. It is a setting of the Latin text of Psalm 51. Originally scored for solo Treble and mixed Choir, this arrangement by the composer for solo Soprano and String Quartet was completed in 1993.
Michael Nyman (b.1944) is an English composer and pianist, who is one of the most sought-after composers of film soundtracks. He studied under Thruston Dart at the Royal Academy of Music, and has since compsed several operas, as well as music for countless films and TV shows.
