The special feature of this theory of form lies in the treatment of the musical work as an individual creation. The author does not establish dogmas and schemes to which the works have to subordinate themselves, but traces the intrinsic law of composition, which has led to the present form system. Leichtentritt proves his professional competence by the fact that he recognized Arnold Schoenberg as the most important pioneer of the 20th century as early as 1926 and dedicated a section to his Opus 11.
